	PLATFORM HOUSE IN PLATTE COUNTY The origins for the design of the Platform House in rural Platte County, Missouri, are derived from utilitarian buildings of the region and rooted in the economy of the elevated shed. Designed by Rockhill and Associates to replace an existing farmhouse, this new building relates to the vernacular tradition of keeping farm buildings elevated above the ground to eliminate moisture and prevent the growth of mold. — Published 2011.0615
	DESIGNING A SMITHSONIAN ROOF Foster + Partners won an invited international architecture competition in 2004 to design a new courtyard enclosure for the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery, housed in the Old Patent Office building in Washington, D.C. 	CREATING THE WASHINGTON METRO The Washington, D.C., Metro project established Harry Weese & Associates as the country's foremost architectural designer of rail transit systems, and led to the firm's involvement in the planning and conceptual design of systems in cities in North America and overseas, including Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, Buffalo, Toronto, and Singapore. The bunkhouse's planning, fenestration, and assembly reverberate with the site's inherent orders of directionality and scale. 	PORTOLA VALLEY TOWN CENTER When Portola Valley, California sought an updated, seismically safer civic complex, the existing mid-20th-century wood-and-concrete-block campus was deconstructed and its parts repurposed, along with other salvaged components, to create a sustainable new facility on another portion of the site. The resulting Portola Valley Town Center is targeted for LEED Platinum certification and was named one of the Top Ten Green Projects for 2009 by the AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE). — Published 2009.1007
