A true sole practitioner, Murcutt chooses mostly to design single-family dwellings, and only in Australia. 	PACIFIC NORTHWEST AIA AWARDS 2008 Built in the 1950s, Woodway Residence north of Seattle was reimagined for a young family by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. 	CHICAGO AIA AWARDS 2008 For a Chicago house they call Case Study 1875, the architects collaborated with engineers and fabricators to develop a skin thermally isolated from the structure, allowing an experience of indoor-outdoor connection without great loss of heat during the cold Illinois winters. — Published 2008.1203
	AUSSIE ARCHITECTURE AWARDS 2008 The new creative arts building at Brisbane Girls Grammar School in Brisbane, Queensland, combines two contrasting halves into a dynamic whole. Public spaces and circulation are housed in the eastern wing of the Cherrell Hirst Creative Learning Centre, with its columns radiating in a distinctive K shape. The horizontally layered western wing contains flexible teaching spaces for art, music, drama, and technology. 	STIRLING PRIZE FOR ACCORDIA HOUSING Pairing sensitively designed housing with generous open space, the architects of Accordia created an enduring residential development in Cambridge, United Kingdom, that embodies the inherent sustainability of livable communities. Their careful efforts have earned Accordia the Stirling Prize for 2008. Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios designed the project with Maccreanor Lavington and Alison Brooks Architects. 	BRICK AWARDS 2008 The Durham County Regional Public Library in Durham, North Carolina, takes advantage of brick for environmental benefit. Brick's thermal mass improves the energy efficiency of the LEED Silver-certified facility, helping to keep energy use 35 percent lower than that of comparable conventionally designed buildings.
