HADID - STIRLING PRIZE FOR EVELYN GRACE ACADEMY
For the second year in a row, the top British architecture prize has been awarded to a building designed by Zaha Hadid.

TUNING A BUILDING AT KIERANTIMBERLAKE
At KieranTimberlake, we frequently conduct postoccupancy building monitoring to verify the performance of our buildings. Preproject monitoring services are used to diagnose and treat existing buildings.
A monitoring program preceded renovation work at Yale University's Sage Bowers Hall, a 1920s-era classroom and office building. The study compared existing uninsulated construction with mock-ups that added new insulation and energy-efficient window assemblies. — Published 2011.0928

NEW ARCHITECTURE IN NEW ORLEANS
Located on one of the busiest thoroughfares in the Central Business District of New Orleans, the apartment building at 930 Poydras was designed to translate the dense, communal atmosphere of the French Quarter into a tower.
To achieve that effect, architecture firm Eskew+Dumez+Ripple incorporated generous, well designed common spaces into the 250-unit, 21-story building. — Published 2011.0615

PALLADIO AWARDS 2011
Hurricanes were a primary concern for Michael G. Imber Architects when the firm designed a traditionally styled home for the new Beachtown development in Galveston, Texas.
Located on the Gulf of Mexico, the vacation-home development combines New Urbanist architecture and planning with systematic fortification against the fierce storms. — Published 2011.0608

In an urban district of Little Rock along the Arkansas River, the Arkansas Studies Institute occupies a facility befitting the study of state history. Two neglected buildings from the 1880s and 1910s were repaired and combined with a new addition to form one consolidated facility that houses over ten million historic documents. — Published 2011.0518

AIA HOUSING AWARDS: SINGLE-FAMILY
In the Towerview neighborhood of Racine, Wisconsin, a strikingly modern two-story home stands apart on a lakefront site. Though its architects credit nearby Victorians as inspiration for the vivid colors highlighting its facade, the playful tone, rectilinear massing, and structurally expressive detailing seem to make more recent references — as well they might. — Published 2011.0406

AIA HOUSING AWARDS: MULTIFAMILY
The condominium building at 1111 East Pike Street in Seattle offers a lively contribution to an urban environment. Located in a dense, walkable, transit-served neighborhood that was formerly Seattle's "auto row," the six-story building features panelized siding in four colors inspired by classic cars of the 1950s. With condo owners given a choice of color for the unit exteriors, those four colors combine to form a variegated patchwork. — Published 2011.0330
