Dear Designers, Builders, and Friends,

ArchWeek Green, from the editors of the leading architecture magazine
online, brings you weekly sustainable design and building news from
around our planet.

In last week's green newsletter, we were able to share some hard
news about sustainable wood certification. This week, we're
reacting to a different kind of hard news.

It's an American note, shared by thousands who touched, in hundreds
of different ways, with the Kennedy family - the honor to our family
that my dad, son of two immigrants, brought JFK to an exploratory
pre-campaign dinner in Oregon in 1958.

A decade later, we lived across the country in Masschusetts. So
as I came into my own political awareness, Ted Kennedy was my first
senator. And he has been there, one of our nation's outstanding
public interest leaders, ever since. Over these several decades,
from time to time and coast to coast, it has been my personal honor
to support the man and the work.

Not entirely a stranger, thus, to the legislative record of the
Lion of the Senate, summarized officially here...

http://kennedy.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Kennedy%20Accomplishments.pdf

...I still stand amazed at the breadth and detail of Ted Kennedy's
contributions, not just to the general betterment of U.S. society,
but even specifically within the narrow band of climate and energy
policy. Joe Romm at Climate Progress has extracted a list worth
reading...

http://climateprogress.org/2009/08/26/senator-ted-kennedy-dies-champion-of-environment-and-clean-energy/

...which specifically includes efforts on reducing greenhouse
emissions, by Ted Kennedy, going back nearly a decade or more.

As Americans, as good people of the planet, let us share the deep
sadness of carrying forward now without Ted Kennedy. Let us strive,
each as we can, to honor his life in ours, going forward with
dedication, empathy, intelligence, and courage.

Senator Edward M. Kennedy, a Champion of the Environment and Clean Energy - Climate Progress, 2009.0826

**	ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, 50 large trees
every week, or 2500 trees (around a dozen acres of mature
conifer forest) each year, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting 120,000 weekly newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by a green mix, currently 98% wind energy and 2% solar
