Dear Designers, Builders, and Friends,

ArchWeek Green, from the editors of the leading architecture magazine
online, brings you weekly sustainable design and building news from
around our planet.

Andy Revkin at the New York Times has a important podium, as Dot
Earth blogger and environmental science reporter for the NYT. And
Revkin has done some great reporting. But questions keep coming up
about the unreasonable credence Revkin gives to climate change
deniers.

No such complaints are heard about Joe Romm, author of the
factually-reliable and hard-hitting Climate Progress blog.

Today, Joe dissects the anti-scientific spin in an Andy Revkin
article that appears on the front page of today's Science Times
section:

NYT's Revkin Persists in Selling Spin from Long-Wrong Deniers That
the IPCC Overestimates the Danger from Warming, When the Reverse
Is True - Climate Progress, August 4, 2009
http://www.ArchitectureWeek.com/blogs/link.php?id=40140

And from last week, an important report comes out of the U.S.
Department of Transportation...

Examining about 50 transportation strategies, the report found
transportation emissions could be reduced 24 percent by 2050 by
acting to change travel behavior and land-use patterns. The
emissions reduction hit 47 percent by adding road pricing
techniques, ranging from pay-as-you-go insurance to charging
	Americans for every mile driven.

The report found environmental gains from advances in fuel
efficiency would be mostly undermined by increased travel and
population, making it important to address the efficiency of the
transportation sector by investing in public transit, land-use
	planning and other low-carbon alternatives.

U.S. Can Cut Half Its Carbon Emissions from Transportation by 2050, Report Says - Greenwire at NY Times, 2009.0728
http://www.nytimes.com/gwire/2009/07/28/28greenwire-us-can-cut-half-its-carbon-emissions-from-tran-16812.html

Of course, what we need is more like 80-90% percent cuts in carbon emissions from transportation by 2050. But 50% represents a plan that is about halfway there... ever so much better than nothing...

Architecture Answer - for last issue's quiz...
There are several admixtures that can be added to your

penetration through concrete walls. These typically are
either a crystalline waterproofing admixture or a
pore-blocker admixture. Which one of these is
