Green Wednesday 2008.0604

Dear Designers, Builders, and Friends,

Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly green design and building news from around the world.

The U.S. space science agency finds itself guilty of suppressing legitimate
scientific climate findings...

The report, signed by Kevin H. Winters, assistant inspector
general for investigations, criticized what it said was a
sustained pattern of activities, largely supervised by
senior political appointees, that included muting or
withholding news releases on global warming and, at least in
Dr. Hansen's case, limiting a scientist's interactions with
	reporters.

"Our investigation," the report said, "found that during the
fall of 2004 through early 2006, the NASA Headquarters
Office of Public Affairs managed the topic of climate change
in a manner that reduced, marginalized or mischaracterized
climate change science made available to the general
	public."

The report said most evidence supported contentions that
politics was "inextricably interwoven" into operations at
the public affairs office in that period and that the
pattern was inconsistent with the statutory responsibility
to communicate findings widely, "especially on a topic that
	has worldwide scientific interest."

This Week's Quiz -
A cyclorama is a large, curved, seamless, white or pale
blue backdrop used in theater design to represent the
sky or to provide a surface on which abstract colors and
patterns can be projected from stage lighting fixtures.
Cycloramas are typically made from either cloth or
plaster. Which of these materials is usually better for
	this application?

Architecture Answer - for last issue's quiz...
What building type would you be designing if you were
considering these three types of single-threaded helix
	combinations: "four-bay, side-by-side," "end-to-end,"
	and "camelback"?

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, 50 large trees
every week, or 2500 trees (around a dozen acres of mature
conifer forest) each year, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
