Dear Designers, Builders, and Friends,
Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly green design and building news from around the world.
Happy week of Earth Day!
Heading closer toward James Hansen et al's documentation of 350ppm as an
appropriate atmospheric carbon target level, the UK is debating moving
to an 80% reduction of carbon emissions by 2050, from the current goal
of 60%...
Global warming is even worse than realised and may
require tougher action to curb carbon emissions,
[UK] Environment Secretary Hilary Benn warned today.
"I think the science is getting clearer and clearer," he
said in an exclusive Evening Standard interview. "We have
less time to act than was thought to be the case."
Carbon curbs will need to get tougher, warns Benn - Evening Standard (UK), 2008.0422

Renzo Piano's New York Times Building - ArchitectureWeek, 2008.0416
http://www.architectureweek.com/2008/0416/index.html
Ask most architects to name the most elemental
ingredients of great architecture, and chances are they
will say "space and light."
But these are not necessarily the first two words that
come to mind when thinking about skyscrapers, especially
tall buildings in New York City....
The New York Times Building changes all that. The
52-story tower, filling out its site on 8th Avenue
between 40th and 41st Streets in midtown Manhattan, is
all about the space and light within.

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, 50 large trees
every week, or 2500 trees a year, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
