Dear Designers, Builders, and Friends,
Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly green design and building news from around the world.
This edition is sponsored by the AIA:
The American Institute of Architects is taking a big step toward
a more sustainable future in 2008. The "Walk the Walk" campaign
supports the issue of sustainable design and how AIA Architects
are becoming part of the solution. This campaign fosters
environmental consciousness and action. Visit:

And here's some encouraging news from a city with, shall we say,
a number of environmental challenges:
Los Angeles is on the verge of adopting one of the toughest
U.S. residential green building plans, the Los Angeles Times
reports.
The under-consideration plan--voted on by two city
council committees Friday--would force all major
commercial and residential developments to cut energy and
water use using low-emission paints, recycled materials,
irrigation systems and natural light.
The city's more than 200 annual privately built projects
over 50,000 square feet would have to incorporate a
checklist of green features based off the Leadership in
Energy and Environment Design (LEED) guidelines. ...

This Week's Quiz -
The permeability of materials to water vapor is measured
in perms. Materials with higher perm ratings are more
breathable than those with lower perm ratings. These
ratings vary by material and density. Materials used as
vapor barriers have low perm ratings. True or false: a
material with a perm rating greater than 1 is considered
a "breathable" material?

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, 50 large trees
every week, or 2500 trees a year, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
