Dear Designers, Builders, and Friends,
Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly green design and building news from around the world.
Last fall, 28 low-income homeowners moved into the first
community in New York state certified under the brand-new
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for
Homes standard.
Local developer Blue Sea Development Co. signed on to use
LEED for Homes at its Morrisania Homes project while the
standard was still a pilot program. The U.S. Green Building
Council finalized the standard in November.
Blue Sea principal Les Bluestone has made it a priority to
build as many green features as he can into Blue Sea’s
developments. "It makes people feel good about where they
live," he said.
Meeting tough LEED standards also helps affordable housing
projects stand out in the competition for subsidized grants
and loans, according to state and city officials. ...

a boom in global building and infrastructure, the rising
cost of energy, and climate change. He made the case
that technology is required for more efficient and more
sustainable design, building, and maintenance of that
new infrastructure worldwide.

Product News - AlumaFloor Aluminum Floor Tile
AlumaFloor tiles are precision-machined from aircraft
aluminum. They require no grouting or fasteners, resulting in
a smooth, high-tech appearance. With a durable, slip-resistant
surface, the flooring is well suited to high-impact,
high-traffic areas. The flooring includes recycled content and
can be recycled at the end of its useful life, estimated by
the Professional Flooring Installers Association to be over
100 years. The cost of the tiles is competitive with other
metals and lower than marble or granite.
