Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,

Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly green design and building news from around the world.

"Ministers from more than 180 countries are in Bali to
try to agree on how to set out negotiations for a global
climate change deal, which it is hoped will be agreed in
	2009.

"But there have already been disputes been the US and the
EU on the wording of the roadmap, which currently says
developed countries must cut their emissions by 25 per
cent to 40 per cent by 2020.

"Christian Aid's senior climate change policy analyst,
Andrew Pendleton, called directly on Environment
Secretary Hilary Benn to be ready to expose the US's
	attempts to stall negotiations.

"His warning came after United Nations secretary general
Ban-Ki Moon told ministers they would fail humanity if a
roadmap to take the world towards a deal on the issue was
	not agreed upon.

"Mr Pendleton said: 'If European ministers are serious
about tackling climate change, then the days when they
can stand discreetly by while the United States
shamelessly wrecks the negotiations by rejecting any
mention of clear and binding targets for reductions in
rich countries' greenhouse gas emissions are numbered.'"

This Week's Quiz -
Rammed-earth and adobe walls are sometimes used in the
southwestern and south-central United States, among other
places worldwide. The selection of one system over the
other might be made based on the character of the native
soil. What is the fundamental difference between the
soils used in rammed earth and in adobe walls?

Architecture Answer - for last issue's quiz...
What is a "jack" rafter, what is a "roof tree," and what
would you call the shortest distance between two opposite
	common rafter seats?

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, 50 large trees
every week, or 2500 trees a year, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
