So who still wants to wait for additional proof before preventive action?

'UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Amid a dramatic increase in
	climate-related disasters, international relief agencies
are calling on countries to increase their commitment to
disaster risk reduction, the United Nations said on
	Tuesday.

"'Climate change is already driving an increase in the
frequency and intensity of heat waves, floods, droughts
and tropical cyclones. We believe that more needs to be
done to contain these natural disasters at the outset,'
said U.N. Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs
	John Holmes.

"'Disaster risk reduction is a key part of the global
	response to climate change.'"

"That land is a community is the basic concept of
ecology, but that land is to be loved and respected is an
extension of ethics." ― Aldo Leopold, A Sand County
	Almanac, 1949
Located on land that Aldo Leopold loved, deep in the
mid-Wisconsin countryside at Baraboo, not far from the
Wisconsin Dells, the graceful buildings of the new Aldo
Leopold Legacy Center house the guardians of his legacy
with a warm and gentle, yet astringent, almost
Shakeresque simplicity of beautiful form and construction.

This Week's Quiz -
Name this building product: A positive-side waterproofing
material with a base of plastic-type clay found primarily
in the Black Hills region of the United States.

Architecture Answer - for last issue's quiz...
House sizes around the world have been increasing even as
family sizes have been shrinking. As of the mid-1990s,
the average family size in the United States was four,
according to a report from the United Nations, while the
average size of a new U.S. home was 1,600 square feet
(150 square meters). At that time, only one of the
following had a larger average new house size. Was it
Japan, Kuwait, Israel, or Great Britain?

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, 50 large trees
every week, or 2500 trees a year, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
