Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,

Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly news on green design and building from around the world.

Location matters. (Yeah... it all does!)

'Jonathan F.P. Rose, a third generation developer who
founded the Jonathan Rose Companies in 1989 to link for-
profit development with a socially conscious mission, began
the Rose Smart Growth Investment Fund a year ago. The $100
million limited partnership is one of the few -- if not the
only -- environmentally oriented investment fund that focuses
exclusively on the acquisition of existing properties in
transit-oriented locations. The expectation is that the fund
will make green improvements to the properties and hold them
	as long-term investments.

'"Over the life of a building, more energy is consumed
traveling to and from a building than is used by the
building itself," Rose said. "So location in urban areas
with good mass transit is critical to reducing environmental
impact. And when you pick transit-based urban sites, supply
is already constrained. So the strategy is to hit a sweet
spot of holistic development and economic return." ...'

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, or about 50 large
trees-worth every week, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
