Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,

Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly news on green design and building from around the world.

This is a tough one for residential architecture in a time of
expanding luxury markets. But overlooking it begs the most
basic questions:

"Despite widespread use of efficient technology, a new
study by scientists from the Department of Energy's
Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory shows that from 1985 to
2002, total residential energy consumption per capita
climbed 8 percent, and residential consumption for the
nation -- the figure most relevant to global effects
like carbon dioxide emissions -- climbed 32 percent.

"While reasons for these increases may be complex, the
Berkeley report singles out house size as a key factor.
A 2005 report from the EIA comes to the same
conclusions, showing that households with 3,000 or more
square feet use 40 percent more energy than those with
	2,000 to 2,400 square feet."

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, or about 50 big
trees-worth every week, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
