Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,

Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you
weekly news on green design and building from around the world.

	SPRAWL LINKED TO OBESE KIDS
'A new study has found adolescents who live in sprawling
counties are more likely to be obese than their counterparts
in dense counties, results that echo similar findings in
	adults.

'Children ages 12 to 17 in disconnected, spread-out
neighborhoods -- where cars have virtually eliminated the
need for walking -- weighed more than those who lived in
dense neighborhoods with destinations nearby, according to
research led by Reid Ewing, an associate professor at the
University of Maryland's National Center for Smart Growth.

'"This novel finding, that where you live can affect your
weight, has been challenged, tested, and generally validated
(in adults), but never for kids," Ewing said.

'The study, published online Tuesday in the American Journal
of Preventive Medicine, is the first national study of youth
	obesity and the built environment.'

this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, or about 50 large
trees-worth every week, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility:
