Residential Tuesday 2008.0617

Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,

Residential Tuesday brings you top housing news and analysis weekly
in this free email newsletter from the editors of ArchitectureWeek.

New home-building projects begun in the US last month slid
3.3% to the lowest level since 1991, in a further sign of
weakness in the battered US housing sector. At the same
time, producer price inflation rose faster than expected,
	according to government figures today...

The data "left no doubt that the housing crunch is still in
full swing," said Dimitry Fleming at ING. "Home builders
have now cut production 60% since the peak early 2006, but
despite these drastic measures, the overhang - as measured
by the months of available supply - is still enormous and is
even approaching the highs of the early '80s crash. Two
years into the housing crunch, companies have deployed every
available trick to lift sales, but with next to no result."
