Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,
Residential Tuesday brings you top housing news and analysis weekly
in this free email newsletter from the editors of ArchitectureWeek.
...Lately, more cracks in the housing market have begun to
show, and the trend is reminding some analysts of the
severe downturn in the region during the recession that
followed the boom years of the late 1980s.
Even in Manhattan, signs of weakness have appeared beneath
the headlines about ever-rising average sale prices of
condominiums and co-ops.
A report last week found that rents in Manhattan declined
in January, by more than 7 percent in some neighborhoods,
according to the Real Estate Group New York.
The latest set of numbers "reinforces our sentiment that
the market has, in fact, turned," Daniel Baum, the chief
operating officer of the company, said in the report.
Economic distress signals are not nearly as widespread as
they were in the early 1990s, and economists are still
debating whether there will even be a recession this time. ...

In his main-stage presentation at Autodesk University

the world of architecture, engineering, and construction
(AEC): increased digitization, increased globalization,
a boom in global building and infrastructure, the rising
cost of energy, and climate change. He made the case
that technology is required for more efficient and more
sustainable design, building, and maintenance of that
new infrastructure worldwide.

Product News - AlumaFloor Aluminum Floor Tile
AlumaFloor tiles are precision-machined from aircraft
aluminum. They require no grouting or fasteners, resulting in
a smooth, high-tech appearance. With a durable, slip-resistant
surface, the flooring is well suited to high-impact,
high-traffic areas. The flooring includes recycled content and
can be recycled at the end of its useful life, estimated by
the Professional Flooring Installers Association to be over
100 years. The cost of the tiles is competitive with other
metals and lower than marble or granite.
