Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,

Residential Tuesday brings you top housing news and analysis weekly
in this free email newsletter from the editors of ArchitectureWeek.

"At the current existing-home sales rate of 5.04 million
units a year, it would take a full 10.5 months to sell the
4.4 million existing homes now on the market, according to
data released by the National Association of Realtors (NAR)
on Oct. 24. The supply of existing single-family homes was
at 10.2 months in September -- the highest since February,
1988. Compare that with the height of the housing boom in
January, 2005, when it reached a record low 3.6 months."

Living Steel Competition 2007 - ArchitectureWeek, 2007.1024
http://www.architectureweek.com/2007/1024/index.html
Living Steel has announced the three winners of its second
	International Architecture Competition for Sustainable
Housing. The consortium of steel companies challenged
	participants to design innovative, resource-efficient
	housing solutions using steel.
The competition targeted locations for affordable-housing
prototypes: Recife, Brazil; Wuhan, China; and the Thames
Gateway area on the east side of London. Brazilian firm
Andrade Morettin Arquitetos Associados won for its Recife
design, Knafo Klimor Architects of Israel won the China
component of the competition, and British firm Cartwright
Pickard Architects won for its Thames Gateway prototype.

Greener Green Roofs
    by Christian Werthmann
    http://www.ArchitectureWeek.com/2007/1024/environment_1-1.html

The sedum roofs of today symbolize performance-oriented
green roof design. Like fine-tuned engines, they run on
leaner artificial substrates with almost no organic
matter; volcanic rock or expanded shale, baked at 2000
degrees Fahrenheit (1093 degrees Celsius), make the
substrates lighter and soil depths as thin as possible.
