Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,
Residential Tuesday brings you top housing news and analysis
every week in this free email newsletter from the editors of
ArchitectureWeek.
With a shortened holiday week in the U.S. (and heavy weather
around our Oregon headquarters), we're contemplating this market
analysis from across the pond...
'The European housing market is likely to slow down in 2007
but not collapse, supported by purchases to offset concern
about pension provisions, credit rating agency Standard and
Poor's says.
'The company's chief economist in Europe Jean-Michel Six
told AFP that after years of boom across most of the
continent, with the notable exception of Germany and
Switzerland, the housing market would settle down.
'"We expect and we hope for a slowdown in 2007," he said,
pointing to concerns that people had incurred heavy debt to
buy homes.'

Architecture Answer - for last issue's quiz...
"Analysis serves to understand a problem... then
there's the creative aspect which comes through
intuition."
"I need to go and explore and ask a place -- and intuit
its aspirations, sense its history. I believe that a
place contains the potential for its own
transformation. If one listens, it will tell you what
to do."
"Creating an architectural structure means taking
possession of the earth. It means transforming a
condition of nature into a condition of culture through
man's work and addressing the needs of the community."
These quotes are from the designer of the Leeum Samsung
Museum of Art, Seoul South Korea and Villa Redaelli,
Bernareggio, Italy. Who is this architect?

ArchitectureWeek is a green publication. By publishing
this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, or about 50 big
trees-worth every week, compared to reaching a similar
readership on paper - not counting these newsletters!
We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
sustainability organizations. And our company offices are
powered by 100% wind energy through our local utility.
