Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,

Residential Tuesday brings you top housing news and analysis
every week in this free email newsletter from the editors of
ArchitectureWeek.

"[Three families profiled] all got their wishes, but
only after making a sacrifice that many other house
hunters would find unthinkable: they downsized, moving
to homes that had 120 to 4,800 fewer square feet than
	their old houses.

"The moves were worthy of salmon swimming upstream,
given that American homebuyers have been in a
decades-long rush into bigger homes. The median size of
a house was 2,227 square feet in 2005, up 50 percent
from 1973, the Census Bureau says.

"Still, there are signs of retreat ― among young
families as well as empty-nesters. In the Northeast,
new homes built last year had fewer square feet than
those built in 2004; overall in the region, home size
has remained basically flat for four years."

this professional design and building magazine online-only,
we save about 48 tons of paper monthly, or about 50 big

We provide ongoing pro-bono services to local non-profit
