Dear ArchitectureWeek Readers,

ArchitectureWeek No. 302 is now available on the Web, with these
new design and building features, and more:

PRIMARY PREFAB
    by Don Barker

    http://www.ArchitectureWeek.com/2006/0906/building_1-1.html

Having provided the United Kingdom's educational system
with new school building design concepts throughout the
1950s and 60s, Southwest London has once again become a
proving ground for a new type of educational
	construction.

The Brandlehow Primary School classroom extension in
Putney, which opened in January 2006, is no ordinary
project. It is only the UK's second education project
to use the prefabricated, wood FinnForest Merk system
from Germany, which enabled the addition to be built in
	a matter of weeks.

What's more remarkable about this application of modern
technology is that the new project is an extension to a
Grade II listed (registered historic) building. And
the original building was itself an experiment in
	prefabrication.

LEED Winery
    by Michael Lundeen
    http://www.ArchitectureWeek.com/2006/0906/environment_1-1.html

The histories of fine wine and of fine winery
architecture have intertwined over the centuries. The
design of the winery building can be central to the
quality of the wine produced as well as to the
winemaker's marketing image. In addition, as a new
Canadian winery demonstrates, a good design can reduce
energy consumption and waste during production.

This summer the American Institute of Architects
California Council (AIACC) announced the 2006
recipients of its annual design awards program. Five
honor awards were given to California architects, for
projects at home and as far flung as Pennsylvania and
London. One of the local projects is a residence hall
complex for the University of California, Berkeley,
designed by Esherick, Homsey, Dodge, & Davis (EHDD)
	Architecture.

Postcard from Lisle, Illinois
    by ArchitectureWeek
    http://www.ArchitectureWeek.com/2006/0906/design_1-1.html

	Dear ArchitectureWeek,
Sure, education should be fun, and fun should be
educational, but what does it take to create a
playground that helps kids see it that way? The answer
may be found at the new Children's Garden at the Morton
Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. Landscape architects from
the Hitchcock Design Group collaborated with engineers
and educators in designing a park that teaches kids
	about nature in a four-acre (1.6-hectare), interactive
	learning environment.
