    Although the single-family home has historically been a focal point in the exploration of architectural ideas, most people do not live in a space designed by an architect.

    As a small architectural practice in New York City whose work has consisted largely of urban residential projects, Resolution: 4 Architecture’s focus has historically been the design of highly efficient, cost-effective, idea-driven spaces.

    A unique kitchen design for a serious cook was imposed on a small 1910 house that had been split into two units in the 1920s.

    The remodel recombined the units into a single-family home, and four spaces were given over for the new kitchen: the original dining room, the family room, a bath, and the tiny kitchen.

    Seldom do skyscrapers succeed simultaneously on the skyline and at the curbstone. The typical goal of a tall building is to make an impact on the city as seen from a distance — to be an architectural monument in space.

    The new Devon Energy headquarters in downtown Oklahoma City is certainly a potent landmark on the skyline; cab drivers from the airport enjoy pointing it out with a dose of civic pride. (Published 2013.0821)

    Sometimes you just have to add on to make the most of a site's potential. In this case, a center-hall Colonial home with a breezeway kitchen that attached to a garage turned its back on the wonderful view of a mountain to the south. (Published 2013.0821)
