Tadao Ando’s Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, St. Louis as photographed by Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Pettus, and Victoria Sambunaris. Ando, a recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, is known for his use of simple form and plainspoken construction. Concrete walls are his signature. Within this austere palate, he uses the play of light, the framing of a view, or the feel of a surface to evoke sensations in the user. Artists Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Pettus, and Victoria Sambunaris portray these qualities in their photographs of the building. Ando has described the Pulitzer Foundation as “a place of possibility”
