Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #452
Question
In a discussion with your structural engineer, she used the term "drift." What does this term refer to?
Answer
The horizontal displacement or deformation of a structure when subjected to a load is called "drift." This horizontal deformation is similar to "deflection," which is a vertical deformation.
