    Solar Thermal Storage Tank

Lochinvar® introduces the Strato-Therm+ Solar Thermal Storage Tank, a space-saving unit that also serves as an indirect water heater and a hydronic buffer tank. It takes advantage of the natural buoyancy of heated water to efficiently stratify hydronic heating water. Solar thermal energy is introduced to the storage tank via the adjacent copper-tube spherical heat exchanger. Potable water is drawn through the corrugated stainless steel coil in the tank, where it is indirectly heated on demand for domestic use. The space heating system accesses the hottest water for distribution to heat emitters. Available in nine models, ranging from 125 to 900 gallons (473 to 3,407 liters).

    Aerogel Insulation

Spaceloft® insulation from Aspen Aerogels is a flexible, nanoporous blanket insulation that combines a silica aerogel with reinforcing fibers. It offers extremely low thermal conductivity, with R-values of up to 10.0 per inch. The insulation is hydrophobic yet breathable, and is suitable for use in interior and exterior walls, floors, and roofs. The leading application is the internal retrofit of solid masonry walls in older buildings. The insulation can be applied directly to existing walls and covered with standard drywall. Also available laminated to drywall gypsum board. Available in thicknesses of 0.2 and 0.4 inches (5 and 10 millimeters).

    Green Roof for Steep Slopes

American Hydrotech, Inc. offers the Garden Roof® Assembly for extensive and intensive green roofs. An extensive green roof can be installed on flat or steeply sloped roofs, with pitches up to 12:12 (45 degrees), using special engineering to accommodate shear forces and ensure soil retention. Pitches greater than 3:12 require the GardNet® soil confinement system (pictured), made of polyethylene strips connected by offset ultrasonic-welded seams. Its ability to conform to irregular surfaces also makes it well-suited for undulating and complex roofs. This component can be stacked for greater soil depth. Vegetation options include plugs with GardMat® or InstaGreen® sedum carpet.
