JEAN NOUVEL PRITZKER PRIZE
Tenth anniversary special issue articleoriginally published in April 2008.
In a world where so much contemporary construction is so repetitively mundane, in the majority, and so dissociatively egotistical, in the contrasting minority, it is a deepening pleasure to celebrate poetically bold, eloquently sensitive, contextually beautiful work.
And that's just the celebration we find in the 2008 Pritzker Prize award to Jean Nouvel of France.

KIERANTIMBERLAKE FIRM AWARD
Tenth anniversary special issue articleoriginally published in February 2008.
The partners of KieranTimberlake Associates LLP approach design as a holistic process that benefits from the collective intelligence of architect, client, and others. The American Institute of Architects has selected KieranTimberlake to receive the 2008 AIA Architecture Firm Award, recognizing the firm's approach to complex challenges, its elegant buildings, its commitment to sustainable design, and its extensive research.

In late September 2006, the Japan Art Association announced the five recipients of the 18th annual multidisciplinary Praemium Imperiale prize. DISASTER ENGINEERING
Tenth anniversary special issue articleoriginally published in August 2005.
New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama lie devastated in the days-old wake of Hurricane Katrina. As water floods through New Orleans and desperate rescues continue, our hearts go out to the hundreds of thousands whose lives have been devastated and to the untold thousands whose loved ones have been lost.

LEARNING FROM PIERRE KOENIG
Tenth anniversary special issue articleoriginally published in April 2004.
"It was my notion, when I started, to make anonymous architecture for ordinary people." — Pierre Koenig (1925 - 2004)
Ironically, the beautiful steel houses of Pierre Koenig, with their stunning, frank simplicity, graceful proportions, and sunny, contextually attuned openness, could hardly expect anonymity in an American landscape of neocolonial, neoclassical, and neovernacular norms.

CULTURE OF LISTENING
Tenth anniversary special issue articleoriginally published in May 2001.
Most architects are acutely conscious of the long-term significance of their buildings. But fewer are conscious of the long-term significance of their corporate culture. When it comes to leaving a cultural legacy for practitioners, however, one Texas firm stands out.
