ENDANGERED HISTORIC U.S. PLACES From Maine to Hawaii, many important examples of architectural, cultural, and natural heritage are at risk of destruction or irreparable damage. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has named its 2009 list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places as part of a campaign to save these landmarks. This year's list includes Frank Lloyd Wright's innovative Unity Temple (1909) in Oak Park, Illinois, which has been structurally compromised by years of water infiltration (Photo: Courtesy NTHP). Next week we'll look at this and the other endangered sites, from a 19th-century industrial village in Massachusetts to Minoru Yamasaki's Century Plaza Hotel (1966) in Los Angeles.
