    SHELTER ON WHEELS

A new kind of mobile homeless shelter has hit the streets of Los Angeles, California. The EDAR (Everyone Deserves a Roof) is a four-wheeled expandable cart that doubles as a one-person sleeping unit. Eric Lindeman and Jason Zasa designed the unit in response to a challenge by local philanthropist Peter Samuelson to improve upon the typical cardboard box. Samuelson seeks to fill gaps in service to homeless individuals by mass-producing the units. Next week architect and writer Leigh Christy will investigate the EDAR prototype, already in use both inside existing shelters and outside the shelter system. (Photo: Julie Yurth Himot)
