Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #412
Question
What is the difference between "type" and "grade" when referring to plywood?
Answer
For plywood, "type" defines the capacity of the plywood to withstand different exposure conditions without delamination. Type 1 is exterior grade, with waterproof adhesives, while Type 2 is interior grade, with water-resistant adhesives. "Grade" refers to the visual quality of the face veneers.
