Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #411
Question
In fabric structures, the terms anticlastic and synclastic are sometimes used to help describe basic surface forms. What do these terms indicate?
Answer
A saddle shape, having double curvature in diametrically opposite directions, is a anticlastic form. A balloon shape, with a double curvature in the same direction, is a synclastic surface form.
