PREDOCK'S ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL

For the University of New Mexico architecture school in Albuquerque, alumnus Antoine Predock designed a building rooted firmly in its context and tailored thoughtfully to its purpose. The facade of George Pearl Hall alternates wide expanses of glass with massive, tawny concrete walls evocative of the landscape and campus. Predock worked to reveal things that are often hidden, exposing building systems to the students, students' design work to each other, and the architecture program to passersby. Next week writer Susan Smith will take a closer look at this design school of the Southwest. (Photo by Kirk Gittings)
