CLIMATE CHANGE: STRONGER, FASTER, SOONER Recent scientific research — published since the deadline for the latest assessment report from the IPCC — reveals that global warming is accelerating far beyond the 2007 IPCC forecasts. Three projects received top honors for built architecture in the annual design awards of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA): the Water + Life Museums and Campus in Hemet, California, by Lehrer + Gangi Design + Build; the Art Center College of Design's South Campus in Pasadena, by Daly Genik; and the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility in Suitland, Maryland, by Morphosis.

STIRLING PRIZE FOR ACCORDIA HOUSING Pairing sensitively designed housing with generous open space, the architects of Accordia created an enduring residential development in Cambridge, United Kingdom, that embodies the inherent sustainability of livable communities. Their careful efforts have earned Accordia the Stirling Prize for 2008. Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios designed the project with Maccreanor Lavington and Alison Brooks Architects. This is the first residential project to receive the prestigious prize, now in its 13th year.
