    Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
    Architecture Puzzler #401

    Question

Aluminum oxide, garnet, silicon carbide, and ceramic are used as part of various options of what common construction product?

    Answer

These are the four main types of abrasives used in sandpaper. Aluminum oxide is the most common and is long lasting. Garnet is often used for finish woodworking and tends to wear out quickly. Silicon carbide is often used for very hard surfaces, such as metal. Ceramic is only available in very rough grades and is used for removing large amounts of surface material quickly.
