Benjamin Moore has launched Aura™, a fully acrylic interior paint that features ColorLock™ binding technology. The paint is GREENGUARD-certified for containing under 50 grams per liter of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) — chemicals that contribute to indoor air pollution. A waterborne colorant system ensures that no additional VOCs are introduced when colorant is added to the paint. ColorLock makes the paint self-priming, with no more than two coats required, and also produces a very smooth finish, allowing seamless touchup. The paint is available in matte, eggshell, and satin finishes, and in all 3,300 existing Benjamin Moore colors, plus an additional new 144 hues from the Affinity Color Collection. An exterior version is expected in spring 2008.
Thermique™ heated glass technology transforms ordinary glass into a heating device for eliminating cold areas near windows. A transparent coating on the glass generates heat when subjected to an electrical current. The current is supplied by two buss bars located on opposite sides of the glass. All electrical components are hidden within the window frame. A patented controller mounts on the wall like a light switch, and allows adjustment of the window temperature. The coated glass radiates heat uniformly, with precise temperature control, and remains completely transparent, without any distortion or discoloration. Heated windows offer the added benefit of a clear view by eliminating condensation, fogging, and frost.
Marlite Inc. introduces Myriad™ Wall Systems, a system of interchangeable decorative panels in extruded aluminum framework. Designed for retail stores, restaurants, and other commercial and institutional interiors, the panels quickly snap in and out of the frames without special tools. The system allows for the mixing and matching of panels, and enables the quick transformation of an environment to accommodate seasonal or other changes. Available panel materials include wood and metal veneers, decorative laminates, stone, and fabric, as well as transparent and translucent acrylic for backlighting. The hardware is available in radius and flat profiles, and with clear satin or black satin anodized finishes. The frames can hold panels as large as 32 by 48 inches (81 by 122 centimeters) and up to three-fourths of an inch (1.9 centimeters) thick.
Icynene Insulation System® is a soft foam insulation and air barrier system that helps manage moisture, control air leakage, and improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality for residential and commercial projects. The spray-on insulation expands in seconds to 100 times its original volume, filling all open cavities and offering an airtight solution. The company web site offers advice about how to specify high-performance structures using Icynene insulation.
Tecta America introduces the TectaGreen™ modular "green" roof system, a multilayered living rooftop designed for installation on top of an enhanced traditional roofing system. The tray units are made of recycled utility polyethylene and measure two feet by two feet (61 by 61 centimeters), with a depth of four inches (ten centimeters). The system includes plants tolerant to rooftop environments, plus a growing medium blended and engineered for sustainable green roofs. Units can be installed preplanted or filled onsite after installation.
