A residential development with thatched roofs is complete in Hoogeveen, the Netherlands. FARO Architecten of Lisserbroek served as architect, along with Box Architecten of Burum. The project comprises 30 row houses in the Terphoogte area, with four blocks of six or seven homes each. The thatched roof and dark brick fit the traditional provincial style.

Construction is complete on the renovation of 2121-HAUS, a commercial office complex in Las Vegas, Nevada. San Diego, California-based Graham Downes Architecture designed the $2.5 million redevelopment project, for which its parent company, BLOKHAUS, Inc., is the owner and developer. The building will house the architecture firm's Las Vegas office, with additional space to lease.
The two-story building with a detached annex studio is clad in horizontal corrugated metal. It features open-plan office spaces and new landscaping and parking. The original 4,000-square-foot (370-square-meter) building was expanded by 8,000 square feet (740 square meters).

A high-end office building has opened outside the Las Colinas area of Irving, Texas. Hardy McCullah / MLM Architects of Dallas designed the two-story, 106,800-square-foot (9,920-square-meter) project for Poynter Scifres Companies. The building has beige, textured walls with large banks of windows. Each entrance to the lobby features a two-story, 41-foot- (12-meter-) curved glass curtain wall. The lobby features multifinish tile, indirect ceiling lighting, wood accent trim, and a curved grand staircase. The second floor has a large common area with curved windows. The general contractor was Bob Moore Construction of Arlington, Texas.

The new JW Marriott Hotel Beijing has opened in the central business district of Beijing, China, at China Central Place. International hospitality design firm WATG was the design architect for the 588-room hotel, part of a large mixed-use development that includes hotels, retail, and office buildings.
The hotel was designed to appeal to a younger travelers. It includes an executive lounge, business center, 1,800 square meters (19,400 square feet) of adaptable meeting and function space, a 1,300-square-meter (14,000-square-foot) ballroom, three restaurants, and a spa. Deborah Rosenblum, managing director of WATG’s Honolulu, Hawaii, office, served as lead project manager.

Construction is underway on a new terminal at Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo, Uruguay. Rafael Viñoly Architects designed the building to emphasize public zones and amenities. With extensive glazing and round skylights, the departure level will be one large, daylit volume. Arriving travelers will pass through a glazed mezzanine level before descending to the baggage claim area. A landscaped public terrace and restaurant will occupy the second floor, with views of the runway and concourse. The gently curving roof, 1,000 feet (300 meters) long, will maintain a low profile in the landscape. Completion is scheduled for early 2009.
