    —The Architecture Puzzler

    Created by Dave Guadagni

    Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
    Architecture Puzzler #354

    Question

Steel heated to about 752 degrees Farenheit (400 degrees Celsius) turns a red that is visible in the dark. At 975 degrees Farenheit (524 degrees Celsius), the same steel would glow visibly during the daylight. At what temperature would the steel turn white with heat?

    Answer

At about 2012 degrees Farenheit (1100 degrees Celsius), the steel turns an orange color. At about 2372 degrees Farenheit (1300 degrees Celsius), it would turn yellowish, and at about 2552 degrees Farenheit (1400 degrees Celsius), it would turn white.
