Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #321
Question
You are designing an elevator for your new building and, in reviewing the code, you discover that you are required to provide emergency doors if you have a blind hoistway. What is a "blind hoistway"?
Answer
A blind hoistway is a portion of an elevator shaft that does not open on a floor. For example an express elevator serving a building lobby and floors 10 through 20 would have a “blind hoistway” on floors 2 through 9.
