BOTTA’S SPA FOR BODY, MIND, AND SOUL The Bergoase spa, nestled in the Swiss mountains near St. Moritiz, takes on a cathedral-like quality. It was designed by Swiss-Italian architect, Mario Botta, renowned for his museums and sacred spaces. In contrast to the adjacent block-style hotel built in the 1960s, the spa wears a sleek, timeless design that signals a shift into an interior space of natural quiet. SEEING IN ROME In 1960, Michael Graves was awarded the American Academy in Rome’s prestigious Prix de Rome. Having just completed his graduate studies in architecture, he embarked on a Grand Tour that led to a lifelong fascination with the landscape, the culture, and the history of Italy. During this time, Graves was exposed to ideas about architecture that went well beyond his modernist upbringing. Next week we'll see some of the drawings he made during his travels.
