    Wayne · 2006.1212
Thomas E. Hall & Associates, Inc. (TEH) of Wayne, Pennsylvania, has announced the appointment of Cory Hunnicut, AIA, as director of interior design. He previously served as a design principal at Daroff Design of Philadelphia, working on such projects as the Murano Condominiums and Comcast Headquarters. Hunnicut has also served as an associate and a design director at the Phildelphia office of Kling. His current projects at TEH include the McKee Group Corporate Headquarters, Valley Forge Executive Campus, Keystone Executive Center, and Beacon Bioscience, all located in Pennsylvania.

    Taipei · 2006.1211
Construction on the interiors of the Xue Xue Institute in Taipei, Taiwan, is now complete. Design firm e15, based in Oberursel, Germany, designed the interior architecture for the arts academy's ten-story facility, including built-in elements and furniture. The plan features short corridors and an open, flexible design. The structure of the space is modeled after apartments, with lounges, kitchens, and eating areas connected to work spaces. A central element in the design is a long oak wall that connects the functional areas of different floors. Large windows in the classrooms provide daylighting and views of the Taipei skyline. The building also comprises administrative offices, a restaurant and kitchen lab, and ground-level public areas, including a multimedia gallery.

    Boston · 2006.1210
The new $51 million home for the Institute of Contemporary Art has opened on Boston Harbor in Boston, Massachusetts. Architecture and arts firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro of New York City designed the 65,000-square-foot (6,000-square-meter) building with a dramatic cantilever that extends to the waterfront. The facade consists of alternating panels of transparent glass, translucent glass, and opaque metal. The museum's galleries, free of columns, have moveable walls and an extensive skylight system. A glass wall facing the harbor spans the north end of the exhibition space. The 325-seat theater and smaller media center also offer bold harbor views. The wood surface of the nearby HarborWalk has been copied in the museum's adjacent public plaza and grandstand, and continues into the interior of the building.

    Silver Spring · 2006.1208
Architecture firm JSA has hired Robert H. Busler, AIA, as chief executive officer, based in the firm's mid-Atlantic office. Busler will serve as a principal, a member of the board of directors, chair of the management committee, and director of regional operations. A registered architect with 27 years of experience, Busler has directed projects throughout the United States, Europe, and the Pacific Rim. Busler previously served in leadership positions at the Washington, D.C., office of WDG Architecture, the Washington, D.C., office of HNTB Architecture Inc., and the New York office of Kohn Pedersen Fox Architects (KPF). His most recent projects include consultation on the new Washington Nationals baseball stadium and design of two new condominium buildings in Prince George's County, Maryland. JSA's mid-Atlantic office is currently in the process of moving from Silver Spring, Maryland to downtown Washington, D.C.

    Chicago · 2006.1208
Shelbourne Development Group, Inc., has revealed Santiago Calatrava's revised design for a twisting 160-story residential tower on the Chicago River in Chicago, Illinois. The new design for the 2,000-foot (610-meter) "Chicago Spire" eliminates a parking structure that had previously been proposed for the 2.2-acre (0.9-hectare) site, relocating the parking underground. This allowed expansion of a landscaped plaza to 1.0 acre (0.4 hectares). Calatrava has also proposed building two bridges across the river to connect the development with nearby parks. The proposed broadcast antenna has also been removed from the design. Groundbreaking is planned for 2007, pending design approval by the City of Chicago.

    Pontiac · 2006.1206
Construction is underway on Bloomfield Park, a mixed-use development in Bloomfield Township and Pontiac, Michigan. The Chicago, Illinois, office of Perkins Eastman, in a strategic alliance with Belluschi Consulting of Chicago, is providing architectural services for the project. Bloomfield Park will include 535,000 square feet (49,700 square meters) of retail space, 67,000 square feet (6,200 square meters) of office space, and 60 high-end condominiums, in a parklike setting that includes a lake, ice-skating rink, and cinema. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in late 2008.

    Lincolnshire · 2006.1201
Protected Tomorrow, Inc., has named Ramesh Gulatee, AIA, NCARB, as principal of its affiliated architecture firm, LifeCare Design Studio, LLC of Lincolnshire, Illinois. Gulatee is a licensed architect in the United States and Canada and brings over 25 years of experience to the position. He has worked on adaptive residential projects in Brazil, Egypt, Italy, Switzerland, and Canada. Since 1997 Gulatee has been focusing on designing specialized housing projects in Illinois. LifeCare Design Studio provides consulting, planning, design, and building services related to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance and universal design for new and existing construction, including single-family and group homes and assisted living facilities.
