INNOVATIONS OBSERVED AT BUILD BOSTON

The annual Build Boston Conference in November 2006 explored significant recent developments in the design/ construction industry. In one seminar, for instance, some of the region's finest photographers discussed the business and art of architectural photography. Steve Rosenthal, whose photo of a Scandinavian Design Store by Bergmeyer Associates is shown here, asserted that, through technology, "photography has changed more in the last 15 years than it had in the previous 150," but that many of the old principles still apply. Next week architect Evan H. Shu, FAIA will share more of what he saw at Build Boston.

SMART GEOMETRY: AN EMERGING CULTURE

GenerativeComponents is a model-oriented design and programming environment that is being offered as an add-on to the MicroStation software suite from Bentley Systems, Incorporated. With this tool, architects can manage and control changes in geometry using rule-based computational design. Next week Professor Elizabeth Bollinger will explain how the software supports innovative design processes.
