GREEN IN BRITISH COLUMBIA There is more to the City of White Rock's Operations Building than meets the eye. The combination of multiple green strategies within a single project, designed by Busby Perkins+Will, was essential to its achieving Canada's first LEED Gold rating for new construction. Next week David Macaulay and Jason McLennan will outline the facility's innovative approaches to energy reduction, with relatively short payback periods, and its creative methods for reducing solid waste and ensuring high air quality.

FASTER PLASTER Exterior plastering has traditionally been a time-consuming stage in construction; progress is delayed while builders wait for Portland cement to cure. Now, a new cement is turning residential stucco application from a 10-day to a 3-day project. This translates into shorter construction cycles and lower labor costs. Next week architect Michael Chusid will explain the benefits of the new material.
