DAVIES ALPINE HOUSE Continuing the tradition of innovative structures at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in West London, the new Davies Alpine House by Wilkinson Eyre Architects is the first glasshouse to be constructed at the World Heritage Site for over 20 years. Next week, ArchitectureWeek contributing editor Don Barker will show us around this glass structure, an impressive and unique showcase of design and engineering, specially conditioned to support an alpine ecology.

KEW GARDENS DEVELOPMENT Since gaining World Heritage Site status in 2003, Kew Gardens in West London have seen several additions including the John Pawson's Sackler Crossing footbridge (left) and the Alpine House by Wilkinson Eyre Architects (above). This work is part of a 30-year master plan that will guide the historic botanical garden’s future development. Next week Don Barker will show how us the bridge and greenhouse fit in with other components of the master plan for the famous site, widely known for its Orangery and Palm House.
