    San Diego · 2006.0814
David W. Rova has joined the San Diego, California, office of HMC Architects as design director. Rova has over 20 years of experience, with a focus on education, healthcare, and civic design. In 2003 he led a winning team in designing the Khalifa Orthopedic Sports Medicine Hospital in Soha, Quatar. Other past projects include the University of Minnesota's Coffman Memorial Union and the Kia Motors Automobile Pavilion in Seoul, Korea. Rova is currently lead designer for the new Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego.

    Surgut · 2006.0814
Construction has begun on the Vershina Trade and Entertainment Center in Surgut, Russia. The Moscow office of Erick van Egeraat Associated Architects (EEA) designed the 377,000-square-foot (35,000-square-meter) building as a large mass with a central atrium. Transparent cuts in the facade allow lines of daylight into the building during the day and electric light out at night. The complex of sports facilities, retail, restaurants, and bars is scheduled to open in summer 2008.

    Milan · 2006.0811
Foster and Partners of London, United Kingdom, has revealed its design for Milano Santa Giulia, a behemoth development in southeastern Milan, Italy. The plan for the 300-acre (120-hectare) site, a former industrial area, includes housing for 50,000-60,000 people, plus schools, churches, retail space, an 870,000-square-foot (80,800-square-meter) hotel, and other services and facilities. A 2,000-foot- (600-meter-) long pedestrian promenade will bisect the development.

    London · 2006.0807
Developer GC Bankside has submitted a planning application for a 229-unit residential development adjacent to the riverfront Tate Gallery of Modern Art in London, United Kingdom. The London office of Richard Rogers Partnership designed the 300,000-square-foot (28,000-square-meter) project as a line of five buildings descending in height from 24 stories to five.

    Atlanta · 2006.0804
The Atlanta, Georgia, office of CUH2A has promoted Chip Bullock, AIA, to principal and managing director. For over 20 years, Bullock has managed the planning, design, and implementation of complex research facilities for academic and government institutions. As leader of CUH2A's Atlanta architecture and planning team, Bullock oversaw design of a variety of such facilities, including two that received LEED silver ratings. He previously led the in-house architecture and engineering design team at the Centers for Disease Control and the in-house team of campus planners at Emory University.
