    TRAIN OF THOUGHT

Celebrated Indian architect Charles Correa has completed his first major project in the United States on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, working in collaboration with the Boston firm of Goody Clancy. The new Brain and Cognitive Science Complex (photo by Andy Ryan) also happens to be, according to MIT, the largest brain research center in the world. Next week, ArchitectureWeek contributing editor Michael J. Crosbie will explain how the building also serves as a gateway to MIT’s urban campus.

    COMPUTING FOR COMPETING

Students at the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at Miami University applied computer-aided design processes while preparing a project for the 2005 Metal Construction Association student design competition. Mark Cerney and Taryn Nye used metal as the primary structural material for an outdoor band/ performance pavilion. Next week, their professor, Murali Paranandi, will explain how the use of software enabled them to simultaneously address the structural, functional, environmental, and cultural requirements of the competition.
