The Los Angeles office of Nadel Architects designed the two new buildings, totaling 535,000 square feet (49,700 square meters), that comprise a lowrise office campus for 2,200 employees and a 17,000-square-foot (1,600-square-meter) child development center. The buildings, which conform to Department of Defense requirements for blast resistance, feature raised floors with underfloor air distribution, exposed ceilings, angular glass walls, and steel diagonal braces. Victorville · 2006.0505
Construction is underway on a new $27 million city hall complex in Victorville, California, between San Bernadino, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Rachlin Architects and The Albert Group Architects, both based in Culver City, California, partnered to plan and design the 66,000-square-foot (6,100-square-meter) addition and 42,000-square-foot (3,900-square-meter) renovation. A two-story wing of offices for city government, state representatives, and federal officials will feature a central atrium with a glass facade and clerestory windows. Decorative aluminum projections above windows will increase the shading coefficient and decrease the cooling requirements of the building. Rooftop photovoltaics have been designed to meet electricity demands for lighting. The building is scheduled to open in 2007.
