    Crystal Barriscale, AIA, AICP, has joined The HOK Planning Group as vice president and director of planning/ landscape architecture in the group’s San Francisco, California practice. Most recently, Barriscale was senior planner for the Physical and Environmental Planning Department at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2000, Barriscale also has served as principal of Barriscale Design Studio, an architectural consulting firm in Mill Valley, California.

    Additional details about Frank Gehry's addition to the Hove seafront in the UK are emerging, as a planning decision approaches. Client Karis, the project's developer, is planning the demolition of the King Alfred leisure center and replacement with a new sports and swimming complex designed by HOK.

    KKE Architects, Inc., headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, announced today the addition of Gary A. Shoeppner as KKE's site development coordinator and head of its site development services. The company is expanding services already offered to include assistance to developers and retailers with all aspects of site development coordination. Services will include coordination of project schedule, preliminary site and building design, and real estate aspects of projects all the way to construction administration, along with management of geotechnical, environmental, traffic, and civil consultants. Prior to joining Greenberg Farrow Architects, Schoeppner most recently served as development manager for Zaremba Group, a national real estate development and management company, and a project coordinator for Perkowitz & Ruth Architects.

    Design firm NBBJ has named nine new principals during its recent annual firm-wide award events. Dale Alberda,Brenda Clark, Kay Compton, Nancy Waiss, Liz Jacks, Diane Lindberg-Nigh, and Lynne Shira, are all new principals at NBBJ's Seattle location. Mark Herman at NBBJ San Francisco and Jonathan Wilch at NBBJ Columbus are also new principals.

    Smith Consulting Architects has design underway for 13 office and R&D/manufacturing buildings totaling 222,050 square feet (2,050 square meters) within Phase I of Opus Point in Carlsbad, California. Opus West Corp. is developing the project. Phase I also will include a 105,950-square-foot (8,845-square-meter) office building located on lot 25, currently being designed by Opus Architects & Engineers. The entire project is being built by Opus West Construction. Completion of Phase I is expected in the fall. Pete Bussett is vice-president-in-charge for Smith Consulting Architects, with Jaime Ramirez serving as project manager.

    San Diego, California-based firm Architects/ Delawie Wilkes Rodrigues Barker has completed the design and technical documents for the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences, located at the university's Linda Vista campus. The design of the three-story, 83,000-square-foot (7,710-square-meter) project includes two levels of academic facilities, offices, and a basement parking garage. The building's exterior is designed to complement the 16th-century Spanish renaissance style of the campus. The project team for Architects/ Delawie Wilkes Rodrigues Barker is being led by Michael B. Wilkes, FAIA as principal-in-charge with Randall Dolph, AIA Associate, serving as project manager and Adel Smith-Chapman, NCIDQ, as director of interiors.

    After nearly 20 years of legal disputes, workers will break ground on New York’s High Line project on April 10, converting the old rail site into a public park. The 1.5-mile- (2.4-kilometer-) long track of the High Line runs from Gansevoort Street in Manhattan's Meatpacking District through West Chelsea to the Hudson Yards and was acquired from CSX Transportation by the City of New York. The High Line’s winning design by Diller Scofidio + Renfro includes a series of gardens. The first section is expected to open in 2008.
