Palladio Awards 2006
by ArchitectureWeek
Despite the prevalence of jagged edges or curvy surfaces in contemporary architecture, there survives a passion among some architects for traditional values and classical ideals. This is revealed not only in the careful restoration of historic buildings but in the detailing and forms of some new construction.
The annual Palladio Awards program — named in honor of renaissance architect Andrea Palladio — was established to honor classical architecture, both new and renewed. This year's recipients were announced recently. Collectively they display excellence and diversity in traditional design in commercial, institutional, and residential projects.
The Palladio Awards program, now in its fifth year, is coproduced by Traditional Building and Period Homes magazines. Editor-in-chief of both magazines, Michael Carey, says the program "has again shown the impressive depth of talent of those working in traditional architectural languages. We are proud to honor designers who are concerned with context and continuity, rather than vacuous novelty for its own sake." >>>
