Jon Buggy, AIA has been named director of Ellerbe Becket's Minneapolis, Minnesota office. Buggy has been with the firm nearly 20 years. He currently serves on Ellerbe Becket's Board of Directors and is national director of healthcare, a role he will continue. He is also currently treasurer of AIA Minnesota. Fred Richter, who formerly served as Minneapolis office director, is taking on a new role as principal in charge of Business Development for Ellerbe Becket's integrated design-build services offering.

IA Interior Architects announced that David Kutsunai has been promoted to principal in the firm's Seattle, Washington office. Since joining IA in 2002, Kutsunai has led the design of many high profile projects, including Amazon.com's headquarters and projects for Microsoft, Washington Mutual, and Citigroup/Smith Barney.

HOK's renovated Canadian headquarters in Toronto has joined the firm's San Francisco, California and St. Louis, Missouri offices in earning certification under the LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) program. The project is the first HOK commercial interiors project - and one of only two projects throughout Canada - to earn the Gold distinction from the U.S. Green Building Council. Completed in December 2004, the 20,500-square-foot (1,900-square-meter) office and studio space was designed to use the base building attributes: sealed concrete floors, open ceilings, bicycle storage and change rooms, and exposed columns. Other sustainable components include effective use of natural daylight harvesting, low-VOC paint and other coatings, high levels of local and recycled materials, installation of operable windows, over 30 percent reduction in energy consumption, and the provision of 75 percent of its electricity provided by renewable resources (through green power).

Jeff Davis, president of JDavis Architects, has announced that John Martin, AIA has joined the firm as senior project manager. At JDavis Architects, Martin’s responsibilities include project and client management. Martin has an extensive background in project management and design from his experience at Cline Davis Architects and McClure Hopkins Architects, where he was the project architect for numerous developments.

San Diego-based Smith Consulting Architects has design underway for a 43,170-square-foot (4,010-square-meter) addition to the Bostik, Inc. manufacturing facility in Temecula, California. The new building is the third and final phase in the expansion of the plant. The scope of work for Smith Consulting Architects entails the design of a one-story tilt-up concrete addition. The architectural firm also designed the previous two phases for Bostik, Inc. Upon completion, the new facility will encompass a total of 124,000 square feet (11,520 square meters). Pete Bussett, AIA is serving as principal-in-charge for Smith Consulting Architects, with Ned Haskell as project manager.

Stephen Haase, AICP, has joined Sudberry Properties, Inc. as a vice president of development for the San Diego, California-based real estate development and asset management firm. In his new position at Sudberry Properties, Haase will assist with the entitlement process for the company's retail and mixed-use projects, including the proposed Quarry Falls project in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. Haase brings more than 10 years of city planning experience to the Sudberry team. Most recently, he served more than three years as director of the City of San Jose Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement Department.

Trinity Design, a healthcare planning, architecture, and interior design firm, has announced that their 172,000-square-foot (15,980-square-meter), $46,000,000 Lacks Cancer Center project received LEED certification. It is the second hospital and only the third healthcare facility in the nation to receive this distinction since LEED's inception in 1999. The Lacks Cancer Center at Saint Mary's Health Care is located in a high-density, historic urban setting in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is the only comprehensive cancer center in West Michigan. Many of the design features that contribute to a "green building" are also recommended for improving patient health and reducing stress levels.
