    Lee Buckner, partner at BBH Design, has announced that David Palacios, AIA, has joined the architectural firm as project manager for the firm, located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Palacios is a graduate of the National University of Mexico and has completed graduate courses in City Planning at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

    Edmond, Oklahoma architectural firm, kerr 3 design group, inc. has moved. The firm relocated their offices to a 3,700-square-foot (345-square-meter) space located at 440 South Coltrane, in Edmond. kerr 3 design group has been located in Edmond for 27 years, and their new office comes as a result of recent growth. kerr 3's new offices will also be home to kerr 3 construction group, LLC, and kerr 3 custom homes, inc.

    Loebl Schlossman & Hackl has announced four new staff members have joined their Chicago, Illinois office: Michael Weiner, Nathan Fell, Christine Lofton, and Matthew Genaze. Michael Weiner, NCARB, LEEDTM, joins the firm as a project architect and manager, with 20 years of experience. Prior to joining the firm, Weiner worked as a senior project architect for Perkins & Will in Chicago. Nathan Fell has eight years of experience across a variety of sectors and previously worked for Tigerman McCurry Architects in Chicago. Christine Lofton comes to the firm after three years at Advanced Technologies Group (ATG) in Lombard, Illinois. She has experience with onsite building analysis for healthcare and higher education facilities. Matthew Genaze, Assoc. AIA, is working on The Palmer House Restoration and Development, and he was previously an intern at Wight & Company in Darien, Illinois.

    Thornton-Tomasetti Group in New York, New York has announced that Sharon Lobo, R.A. has been promoted to senior associate from associate. In addition to serving as a designer on both new and existing structures, Ms. Lobo manages forensic and litigation projects relating to commercial and residential construction. Ms. Lobo joined Thornton-Tomasetti Group in 2000.

    Construction is complete for the new 4,700-square-foot (435-square-meter) sales center for the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, California. San Diego-based architectural design firm Graham Downes Architecture provided comprehensive architectural and interior design services for the project. Graham Downes Architecture was retained by hotel developer 5th Rock LLC, managed by Tarsadia Hotels. Located on the first floor of a completely renovated two-story warehouse building, the sales center showcases condominium hotel units that are for sale in the new downtown luxury hotel. The hotel will encompass two 12-story towers featuring 393 guest rooms, suites, luxury penthouses in various configurations, and more.

    Design firm ForrestPerkins announces the addition of George L. Scammell, ASID, IIDA, as vice president for Resort Design. Scammell, who will be based in the firm’s Washington, DC office, brings to ForrestPerkins over two decades of experience in the design industry. Previously, he worked ten years as design manager for Walt Disney World Co. With responsibilities firm-wide, Scammell will focus on business development opportunities in destination and themed resorts worldwide. He is certified by the Board of Architecture and Interior Design and the National Council for Interior Design.

    Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina has added a new $13.1 million undergraduate science research and teaching building. Designed by the architecture firm Lord, Aeck & Sargent, the new Charleston Southern Science Building opened its doors this fall. The 54,000-square-foot (5020-square-meter) facility has eight research laboratories, 11 teaching laboratories, 15 faculty offices, and additional classrooms. Joe Greco, AIA was design principal for the project. The exterior is clad in buff-colored brick and cast stone in the color range of the existing architecture of the campus.

    The San Francisco, California office of SmithGroup has named two new principals to lead the firm's Workplace Studio. Management principal Juhee Cho, IIDA is a long-time project manager whose work has been featured in publications such as Interior Design and Contract. New design principal William L. Loftis, AIA has earned three Boston Society of Architects' Design Awards for Excellence and an AIA New England Regional Award.

    F+A Architects was recently named the principal design firm for Al Taj (The Crown), an extensive mixed-use entertainment/ retail complex in Amman, Jordan. Developed by Specialized Investment Compounds Co. plc, the project is particularly demanding due to the area's mountainous terrain and physical security concerns. The $600 million, 3,660,000-square-foot (430,000-square-meter) complex encompasses six levels of retail, office building, hotel, and two residential towers. F+A Architects is working with many of the same subcontractors from the recently completed Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, U.A.E., which the firm also designed.

    HuntonBrady Architects has announced that construction is complete on the Baldwin Point Office Building in Orlando, Florida. The 162,000-square-foot (15,050-square-meter), four-story commercial office building recently opened for tenants. Danny Gordon, AIA, was project manager and architect. The tilt-wall structure has steel columns and composite steel floor systems.
