Cityscape 2005 Awards
by ArchitectureWeek
Today, new investment and new attention are focusing on cites such as Dubai, Beijing, and Istanbul, as well as on the established modern metropolises (New York, London, Paris). The recent announcement of the Cityscape 2005 Architectural Review Awards exemplifies this new focus.
In September, an international jury sought out architectural excellence through the program, "Design for the Emerging World." In selecting award recipients, they applied the criteria of concern for the environment, sympathy with a specific site and culture, and creativity. Projects had been submitted from the Middle East, Africa, Central and Eastern Asia, Australasia (excluding Japan and Australia) and South America.
Among the 16 honorees were houses, office buildings, parks, and civic and transportation facilities, both built and proposed. They were selected from 300 entries submitted from around the world. >>>
