Solution to Last Week's Puzzler
Architecture Puzzler #265
Question
In what city is the “Piazza d’Italia” (1979) by Charles Moore? How was Moore himself memorialized in this plaza?
Answer
Designed by Charles Moore with August Perez and Associates and Ron Filson, the “Piazza d’Italia” is in New Orleans, Louisiana. This postmodern icon is a colorful outdoor pavilion that was meant to celebrate New Orleans’ Italian community. If you ever visit, look for Moore’s face spouting water (cast into the fountain at the direction of his associate architects).
